Who are we?

The Suilaaqivik - Nunavik Youth Houses Association (NYHA) is dedicated to empowering the youth across Nunavik’s 14 communities.
Our vision is to create safe and welcoming spaces deserving Youth Houses in every community of Nunavik, where young people can connect, grow, and lead by providing them resources, activities, opportunities, exchanges, and support. We promote healthy lifestyles and foster personal growth through cultural, educational, and recreational activities rooted in Inuit traditions.
Through collaboration and partnerships, we nurture emerging role models who will shape the future of Nunavik. We believe that vibrant Youth Houses empower young people to take charge of their destinies with confidence and pride. Together, we are building a brighter future where Inuit culture is honored, and youth voices are heard.

Our mission

Our mission is to create safe, fun, and welcoming spaces where Nunavik youth can thrive, express their creativity, and strengthen their connection to Inuit culture.
We support and coordinate Youth Houses across all 14 Nunavik communities — dynamic gathering places where young people can take part in activities, build friendships, and thrive as confident and empowered leaders.
Guided by the wisdom of Elders, we promote a youth-centered approach rooted in cultural pride, self-determination, and well-being. Through play, collaboration, and leadership opportunities, we empower the next generation to lead with confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.
Our name, Suilaaqivik, embodies this spirit — it means “a person who is in the right place, among the right people, and stays engaged in meaningful activities to ease their worries.”
It reminds us that when youth face challenges, staying active, creative, and connected to their community can bring comfort, strength, and balance.

UPCOMING EVENTS

NEW PARTNERSHIP: SUILAAQIVIK - NYHA X NUNAVIK POLICE
Suilaaqivik – NYHA is launching a new partnership with the Nunavik Police Service to support safety, prevention, and stronger relationships in all Youth Houses. Three Prevention Officers will visit each Youth houses every two weeks to connect with youth, share what police work looks like, and learn more about Inuit culture.
The goals of this initiative:
• Help youth understand police work so they feel safe—not afraid—around officers.
• Create space for officers to learn about Inuit culture, values, and everyday life in Nunavik.
The officers will lead hands-on workshops, activities, and open discussions with youth in every community.
Follow us on social media for any updates about the schedule!
